About Perthyn
Perthyn is a values-led organisation committed to supporting people with learning disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives. We believe in person-centred support that empowers individuals to make choices, take positive risks, and thrive in their homes and communities. Our values – Integrity, Empowerment, Innovation, Accountability, Inclusivity, Belonging, Accomplishment, and Resilience, guide everything we do.
About the Role
We are looking for Support Workers to work across two homes located in Shropshire, one in Gobowen, supporting three people, and one in Baschurch, supporting one person. As a Complex Support Worker, you’ll be part of a dedicated team providing person-centred support to people with learning disabilities and complex needs, including autism, epilepsy, dysphagia, and trauma-related experiences.
While your role will be split across both homes, you will typically spend a full shift at one home, focused entirely on supporting the needs of the people living there. This is not a domiciliary care setup, you’ll be working in stable, well-supported environments where consistency and relationship-building are key.
You’ll help people set and achieve personal goals, support them with health and personal care needs, and encourage active participation in household tasks and decision-making. You’ll also facilitate meaningful activities such as baking, music, arts and crafts, swimming, theatre trips, and long countryside drives, all tailored to the interests and preferences of the people we support.
This is a dynamic and rewarding role that requires compassion, patience, and adaptability. You’ll be trained to use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies and trauma-informed approaches to help people manage anxieties and behaviours in a calm, respectful way. You’ll also support people with medication, health appointments, budgeting, and communication strategies that promote independence and choice.
We welcome applications from support workers with experience in complex and challenging environments. However, if you’re new to the sector but have the right values, a proactive mindset, and a genuine desire to make a difference, we’ll provide you with the training and support you need to thrive. What matters most is your ability to build trusting relationships, communicate clearly, and work collaboratively as part of a team that puts people first.
